摘要： The affine maximal surface equation is a fourth order nonlinear 
partial differential equation arising in affine geometry. It is closely related 
to the Monge-Ampere equation.  In this talk we study a boundary value 
problem and the associated Plateau type problem proposed by Chern and Calabi. 
We formulate it as a geometric variational problem and prove the existence 
and the interior regularity of maximizers.
