摘  要： The landscape of general relativity research has undergone drastic changes in recent years and it is no longer a purely mathematical discipline. In this talk, I will illustrate this point by describing a project in general relativity commissioned by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.  This project is closely related to another project in satellite geodesy and I will describe how ideas developed in general relativity are applied to study global climatic change and earthquake in earth science.
