Title: Postgraduate study at HKUST

Abstract: The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the postgraduate program of the mathematics department at HKUST, with the main focus on pure mathematics and mathematical physics. Students from year two onward, especially those with a keen interest in both mathematics and physics, are all welcome.

Title: The Poisson Realization of so(2, 2k+2) on Magnetic Leaves.

Abstract: We shall present a realization of the real Lie algebra so(2, 2k+2) (k>0) as a Lie subalgebra of the Poisson algebra of smooth functions on some canonical symplectic spaces. As a result, an extension of the magnetized classical Kepler problems to dimension 2k+1 is obtained. The hamiltonian, the angular momentum, the Lenz vector and the equation of motion for this extension shall all be explicitly reported.
