摘要: For a manifold X, we denote by TT*X the total tangent space of the
total cotangent space of X. In 1970s Tulczyjew observed that TT*X has one
canonical symplectic structure and two underlying canonical Liouville
structures; and that corresponds to one geometric formulation and two
local descriptions (one Lagrangian and one Hamiltonian) for any given
particle dynamics.
Recently this unified geometric approach to classical mechanics was worked
out (by the speaker) for particles in gauge fields with arbitrary gauge
group. As a by-product, Dirac's charge quantization condition is now
generalized from U(1) to any compact Lie group.
