Abstract: Rogue wave solution of integrable partial differential equations is one kind of large-amplitude doubly localized rational solution. Few lower-order rogue wave solutions of the NLS has been observed in water tanks and optical fibers. In this talk, we shall provide a simple review of the rogue wave based on a theoretical model-NLS equation, and then discuss the non-symmetric feature in the observation. We shall provide non-symmetric rogue wave of the NLS. The derived non-symmetric doubly localized second-order solution is generated experimentally in a water wave flume for deep-water conditions. Main results have been published recently at Proc. R. Soc. A 470(2014), 20140318. If the time is sufficient, I also would like to show several pictures of the 3-dimensional rogue wave.
