The study of Diophantine equations is an old and important problem in number theory. Equations of low degree and in a large number of variables are particularly interesting because they tend to have more solutions than other kinds of equations. The main goal of this talk is to give an overview of this area. I will present the history of the topic, some important results related to it, and some open questions.
